On Wednesday, September 24, 2022, the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC) and the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) announced their upcoming Gender and Inclusion Summit at a media parley in Abuja.

The Summit is scheduled to hold at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on November 16, 2022.

In his welcome address, the CEO of the NESG, Mr. 'Laoye Jaiyeola stated that there is an urgent need for joint efforts toward abating gender inequality and inclusion-related losses.

"A multi-sectoral approach is needed in connecting the dots of gender inequality. And the Gender Inclusion Summit is focused on providing that multi-sectoral approach," he said.

Also, the Head, Strategic Communications and Advocacy, NESG, Mr. Yinka Iyinolakan, mentioned that gender and inclusion is not necessarily specific to females but involves collaboration between both genders.

In her keynote address, Deputy Director, PIC, Dr. Osasuyi Dirisu, said that gender equality is a fundamental human right and a key accelerator for achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She added that the Summit will provide a platform to explore transformative ways to achieve gender equality, inclusion, and gender-responsive governance in Nigeria.

According to Dr. Osasuyi, the Summit aims to bring together cutting-edge research and practice related to gender and the policy process, providing an opportunity for attendees to share perspectives, exchange ideas, learn from gender experts and expand their networks for future policy and programmatic work.

While disclosing the Summit theme tagged ‘Connecting the Dots for a Gender-Inclusive Society’, she emphasised that "the summit is not just about women; it's also about men, the disabled, and other vulnerable people in society."

The Gender and Inclusion Summit will be hybrid, and the organisers urge scholars to submit their abstracts by October 22, 2022, or earlier. There will be plenary sessions and organisations will be able to showcase their products and services at an exhibition to be held on the sidelines of the free-to-attend programme.
